Day +22
Thursday, Oct. 31: Woke up this morning after fevering throughout the night. Platelets: 6 Hemo: 7.2 WBC: 1.05 ANC: 622. Platelets did go up a bit but still required a transfusion. Unfortunately not able to be done right away as fevers do not allow for platelets to be given. Slept most of the day and throughout the night due to the high fevers. Had the rigors for a bit so needed to be bundled up to relieve the cold. Fever subsided enough early afternoon to get platelets. More cultures were done as the highest fever was 102.6. Not able to meet goals today as pure exhaustion set in. When doctors arrived they noticed the exhaustion and distended belly so they requested another CBC to look at the counts. They came back lower than expected, so they did a peripheral draw as well as a draw from the picc line. The counts were confirmed to be correct and platelets dropped from 7 (an increase from the platelets given earlier) to a 4. Hemoglobin went from 6.2 to 5.8 from a 7.2 in the am. A CT scan was ordered to help get to the root cause of the decrease. Red cells were transfused. Kidney function is concerning to the doctors but everything else looks good on paper. All in all, received 2 units of red cells and 2 units of platelets. Awaiting CT results.
